How old are puppies when they open their eyes? Best answer on the web

  • I'm doing a project in my biology class and have to raise a viritual puppy litter. I tried looking up how old puppies are when they open their eyes, but I have found answers ranging from 8 - 21 days. This seemed like a pretty big range, so I decided to come here. Is it also true that a puppy's ears usually open a few days after their eyes?


  • yep anywhere from 7-9 days i have even some litters go as long as 10 days. and yes when the eyes open then the ears will be a day or two at the max behind them

  • it has been my experience that at about 2 wks. of age you will start to see the inside corner of the eye open a little and a little more everyday until completely open. it can be different with each puppy. never try to help the eye to open. the ears open about the same time.

  • Usually 7 to 10 days old. Some take a bit longer. If they go over 14 days I'd get worried and have them vet checked. Their ears open shortly after the eyes!

    It take about a week to 10 days before the pup can really focus so dont expect them to see perfectly right away! ok


  • Around the eighth day they will have their eyes open. the ears should open up 2 to 4 days after their eyes.


  • Well when puppies are born they do not have their eyes or ears open. For the eyes I think they open around 6 - 7 days. And for the ears 2 - 4 days.

  • Well that may be true it is a long range but I know for a fact that that full range is possible for all different breeds of dogs. I ihave had them open thier eyes at 9 days 11 days and 14 days and almost every other date possible between then. Yes a few days or even as soon as the next day they will start to open Im sorry about the range but no dog is the same even if it is the same dog who has another little does not mean thier eyes will open at the same time as last time..
